Proposition 12

Proposition 12

To all of our partners/customers:

As you are all aware, the Supreme Court in a recent ruling upheld Proposition 12 regarding all pork products. With this, the enforcement date now is July 1st, 2023.

I am sure you are wondering what this covers and how we, your distributor of choice, will handle this and what lies ahead.

Prop 12 covers all raw uncooked products including bacon, ham, chop, ribs, riblet, shank, loin, roast, brisket, sirloin, or culotte.  All pork must be either compliant with the regulations of Prop 12 or exempt. Some items that would be exempt are cooked bacon, ground pork, etc. A full list of both compliant and exempt items can be found on the CDFA website.

Another item that must be adhered to is that every distributor of the items covered under Prop 12 must be registered with the state of California by July 1, 2023.  To that end, Jordano’s is certified already, and should you ever have a need to verify that, please feel free to reach out to your sales rep and we can have a copy provided for you.

Prop 12 requires that starting July 1st we only buy products that are Prop 12 compliant or exempt. Jordano’s is committed to that, and we have already positioned ourselves to have compliant product. Prop 12 does allow for distributors to sell off any transient inventory we may have in our warehouse, and we will comply with that as well.

Please know our goal is to continue to supply you with the best service and product in the industry and we will work in every way to assist you in that endeavor. While the supplies now may be somewhat limited, we are dedicated to helping you find options to keep your quality level up and costs as low as possible.

Should you have any questions please feel free to reach out to anyone here at Jordano’s, and we will assist with those answers.

Sincerely,

Patrick Day
